YOUTUBE Vid: AFC Challenge Cup Final Preview with Football Palestine

The 2014 AFC Challenge Cup started with eight teams.

Now it is down to two: the Philippines and Palestine.

Who will bring home the Challenge Cup, and with it, the last remaining slot in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup?

Football Palestine and I preview the final.

In this video, we talk about the road to the final for both teams, our previous history, both teams strengths and weaknesses and what it means for both countries should we win -- or lose.

May the best team win!

POSSIBLE Starting Azkals Starting 11 vs Turkmenistan

Bearing in mind that the Philippines need at least a draw, my idea is to have the Azkals line up a conservative 4-2-3-1 formation.

Dream Team 4-2-3-1 football formation

Phil Younghusband leads the line, Mulders to support.

Schrocky and Reichelt to provide speed in the wings.

Chris Greatwich and Martin Steuble to provide stability and protection -- they must be disciplined and not stray too far from the back four.

Cagara and Rota to stay near Gier and Lucena and not bomb forward too often.

Same as above but with the speedier Balot Doctora playing the number 9. Phil is in the hole in support, and can drop deep.

The experienced James Younghusband takes his spot on the right -- he can hold up the ball and is physically strong. Jason de Jong has to curb his attacking tendencies and be disciplined.

PREVIEW: Azkals vs Laos + Projected Starting 11

Dream Team 4-2-3-1 football formation

The return of Phil Younghusband and Rob Gier to the Azkals side will be a boost, but is tempered by news that Neil Etheridge will miss today's match due to a recurring injury.

Phil Younghusband, the leading goalscorer of the 2012 AFC Challenge Cup, is expected to lead the line against Laos in the Azkals’ second match in Group B.

Patrick Reichelt and Stephan Schrock should man the flanks. Paul Mulders, who was in the starting 11 last match but had to pull out due to sea sickness, could play in the hole.

The availability of Rob Gier means that Jerry Lucena could be deployed as a defensive midfielder, although coach Thomas Dooley might opt for either Chris Greatwich or Jason de Jong and save Lucena for the tougher match vs Turkmenistan.

Roland Muller will be a more than able replacement for Etheridge, if indeed he is unable to play.

There is talk among the Azkals fans in social media of the team needing to win big – “4-5 goal margin if possible”. Perhaps they were buoyed by Turkmenistan’s 5-1 win vs Laos last Tuesday, but make no mistake, the Azkals overlook Laos at our own peril.

Laos actually led 1-0, before being overwhelmed by Turkmenistan. Another important trivia: the Philippines have never beaten Laos in a senior football match. This would be the perfect time as any to beat our fellow Southeast Asian counterparts.

Laos knows that a loss would eliminate them from the tournament, thus we should expect them to come out fighting.

A win and three points are the minimum requirement against Laos. A draw would give us hope, but it will leave us with too much to do vs Turkmenistan in the last game.

A loss – let’s not go there.

A strong and convincing win gives us four points AND puts us ever closer to a slot in the semi-finals. It also sends a message to our rivals that the Philippines is for real and is to be taken seriously.

Let’s go, boys.

POSSIBLE SCENARIO 3: Azkals Starting 11 vs Afghanistan

Dream Team 4-1-3-2 football formation

Two speed rockets up top.

Reichelt in the hole.

Concerns re Steuble in holding mid -- may be vulnerable at times. Chris Greatwich may be preferable.

May be too offensive minded a formation for the Azkals.

POSSIBLE SCENARIO 2: Azkals Starting 11 vs Afghanistan

Dream Team 4-2-3-1 football formation

Another scenario:

Lucena is preferred at centerback.

Rota at rightback.

Jason de Jong as the holding mid, but with license to go forward.

Cagara with license to overload Schrock's side.

Porteria and Doctora to burn the opposing defense with their speed.

POSSIBLE SCENARIO: Azkals Starting 11 vs Afghanistan

Dream Team 4-2-3-1 football formation

This is a 4-2-3-1 formation, taking into consideration the absence of Phil Younghusband and Rob Gier.
-----

Reichelt as the lone striker, with Porteria in the hole.

Schrocky and JYH to play narrow, allowing Cagara or Anton to join the fray.

Lucena to play deeper when fullbacks join the attack.
